Attention reduces our processing load by directing us to the most informative stimulus parameters (e.g. feature, location, time), and a complete understanding of how attention works has both theoretical and application values. In this seminar, I will talk about my work centered around two questions: how our visual attention interplay with scene regularity (e.g. color, collinearity, orientation) and guide our search behavior? Is it possible that a feature, without being detected by our perceptual awareness, direct our attentional focus? At the end, I will also discuss about the implications from these research results on design and understanding of attentional systems.
